Education has always been a passion of mine. I never had the patience to go through the system to become an educator in the CPS system. Instead, I have taken my time and passion to give back to the communities through charity, volunteer work, food drives, toy drives, clothing drives and mentoring .
My wife did go through the system and has been a CPS teacher for eight years now. I deal first hand with the frustration of not having the basic tools to do your job. I won't get into the issues my family deals with because I do not want to take away from the bigger picture. Please read on.
The Chicago teachers Union announced they will be going on strike tonight around 10pm. The discussions have been going on in my home for months.
When it finally happened I was upset, excited and ready to deal with the way it would affect my family and my city. I am a very vocal person when it come to issues that I am passionate about so I went to Twitter & Facebook knowing conversations would be going on about the strike.
I posted this on Facebook :
"Wow. All this backlash against the teachers has me heated. My people, please educate yourselves and realize that CHICAGO TEACHERS UNION is NOT CPS. CPS is the government & CHICAGO TEACHERS UNION are the people who are fighting for the people.
This is about a lot more than money. Do the research. A lot of the issues were mentioned tonight in the live press conference . Don't let the media play their game. Support the union because the union is fighting for the children and the future of the entire system.
Rham Emmanuel & CPS are liars, selfish and money hungry. They want to cut corners to keep money in their pockets. PERIOD.
I see a lot of miseducated opinions concerning this Chicago Teachers Union strike. Get informed. It's not all about money"
The union is trying to work things into the contract that will improve the entire education system in Chicago. Did you know teachers & students work in 100 degree classrooms? Did you know CPS expects the same test results from every child regardless if they are poor, homeless or require special education ? So many children deal with adult issues at home that are very difficult and the union wants more social workers in schools to help with these children. Trust me, I know it can be frustrating but the teachers are not the enemies.
If you want to do something contact the board and express your frustration.
Support the teachers. The union is for the kids and our cities future.
Yes money is involved , teachers need to be fairly compensated but this is bigger than money. It's about the future of the entire system and where the union will stand and the role they will play.
This is history people. Educate yourself and support those that represent YOU
Want more detailed reasons why the teachers are striking ?
Until the next thought I see ...
Peace,
Stay Blessed.
